It’s Labor Day
I’m not a screenwriter. Nor am I an actor. But I am an American laborer, and this affects all of us.
Writers are not the only ones struggling under the current industry business model. That is why they are supported by every major Hollywood union and political and community leaders across the country. And by lil’ ol’ me.
Writers and actors are asking for fairness: when the studios invest millions into producing a certain film or series, they can find it in their budgets to pay creators for the value they create.
The AMPTP refuses to create a modern contract to address modern issues.
For them, it's business as usual:
👉Income erosion
👉AI exploitation
👉Abusive self-tape demands
The studios have shown that they are determined to undermine working conditions. We, all of us, must now exert the maximum leverage possible to get a fair contract — writers and by withholding labor. The rest of us by withholding our subscription dollars and our patronage in any way.
How can you and I support striking workers this Labor Day?
