A day ‘on’

Martin Luther King Jr. Day isn’t just a day off—it’s a day "on" for service, a time to honor King’s legacy of justice, equality, and community action.

For the past few years, I’ve honored this day by picking up trash in my Los Angeles neighborhood. It’s a simple yet impactful act that helps beautify the community and reminds me that small actions add up. King’s vision of the Beloved Community—a world rooted in compassion and shared humanity—inspires me to contribute in ways that bring us closer to that ideal.

Service can take many forms. Whether it’s volunteering at a food bank, organizing a neighborhood cleanup, donating to a cause close to your heart, or mentoring someone who needs support, every effort counts. It’s not about how much you do but the intention behind it.

This MLK Day, let’s reflect on the values King fought for—equality, kindness, and justice—and find ways to live those out in our actions. What will you do today to honor his legacy?

For me, it’s another year of picking up trash and connecting with my neighbors. I’d love to hear what you’re doing—drop a comment and let me know!
