WIP Wednesday: Decision in Favor

Work in Progress

I’m giddy to share that I have started researching Decision in Favor: A sexy enemies-to-lovers courtroom rom-com with a clairvoyant heroine. That’s the working title of the book I’m planning based on Deborah in the Book of Judges.

Where’s Hannah’s Song, you ask? Great question. She’s stuck in limbo for now. After a surge of creativity, I have just been stuck stuck stuck for months.

In honor of National Novel Writing Month, I am starting with a clean slate. Last year I started NaNoWriMo with a naive view toward a complete manuscript by the end of the November. This year, I’ll be happy with whatever word count I can manage. My goal is 30,000 words — just 1,000 words per day.

Here are some of the things I have planned for our new friend D’vora.

FMC

  • Retired JAG officer (retired judge and retired warrior)

  • Beverly Hills law office (Palm of Deborah)

  • She might be a pyromancer; she’s definitely clairvoyant (or is she just very observant?)

  • She fights for women (women’s marches, radical feminist, reproductive freedom fighter)

  • She rejects gender norms

  • “One tough mother”

FmC

  • Secondary female main character

  • Foil to both FMC and MMC

  • Potential three-way situation here, maybe even a polyamorous HEA — I’m not sure yet

  • She actually wins the “decision in favor”

  • Strong “yes, please” personality but still has a backbone

MMC

  • Detective (also retired military)

  • Enemies to lovers — he’s a secret feminist but gives her a hard time about it

  • Devoted (touch either of them and die)

  • Bodyguard vibes
