Indie authors stand with WGA
I feel exceedingly guilty releasing a novel in the middle of the Writers Guild of America strike. Had I not tied myself to a date that the Zon would penalize me for missing, I would’ve held back. Two things: My tiny little launch will put very few pennies in Jeff Bezos’s or my pocket. And, I can at least use this platform to spread the good word.
Writers are not the only ones struggling under the current industry business model. That is why WGA are supported by every major Hollywood union and political and community leaders across the country.
WGA are asking for fairness: when the studios invest millions into producing a certain film or series, they can find it in their budgets to pay writers for the value they create.
The studios have shown that they are determined to undermine writers’ working conditions. WGA must now exert the maximum leverage possible to get a fair contract by withholding their labor. #WGAStrong #WGAStrike
Urge the companies (Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Disney, Discovery-Warner, NBC Universal, Paramount, and Sony) and AMPTP to end the strike by giving writers a fair and equitable deal.
