Happy Independence Day

On July 4, Americans celebrate our independence from the British Empire. Or, that’s what we say we’re celebrating. I think it’s often more of a celebration of hot dogs, sunburns, family, and friends.

When I worked at an animal shelter we spent the weeks leading up to Fourth of July educating the public about how fireworks can really upset pets. Here’s an article from RSPCA (I love irony).

As you hug your pet this Tuesday night, you may want an introvert’s way to celebrate this holiday. Might I suggest you watch some excellent George III content?

  • My favorite King George is Hamilton’s especially as played by Jonathan Groff. This character gets a lot of flack from history purists but I love his comic relief. Lin-Manuel Miranda knew exactly what he was doing when he gave him the first lines of the play (before it even starts!) and three songs: "You'll Be Back", "What Comes Next?", and "I Know Him".

  • The most delicious George III is of course Queen Charlotte’s, played by Corey Mylchreest. I watched all six episodes in one sitting (don’t judge!). Just scrumptious! You should also check out content of the equally yummy India Ria Amarteifio doing pressers with Corey—the two of them are even more fun in real life than they are on screen.

  • Last but not least, please check out this post from my current favorite content creator Kailin Maurine. “Netflix calling every historian after making millions of women fall in love with King George III.”

No better way to celebrate our divorce from the English than to celebrate His Majesty King George. 👑
