First person blurb

When it comes to writing blurbs, I believe they should match the feel of the book they’re advertising. For me, a blurb isn’t just a summary—it’s an invitation, a sneak peek into the world I’ve carefully crafted.

Holland, My Heart has had a first-person blurb for years. I chose this style because it perfectly reflects the intimacy and personal journey within the story. The narrative voice, the emotions, the stakes—it all needs to come through in those few lines. I want readers to connect with Holland right from the start, to feel like they’re stepping into her shoes, ready to walk alongside her.

I’m always on the lookout for that magic blend of tone, tension, and intrigue in a blurb. It’s not just about telling the story, but about capturing the essence of what makes the book special. Whether it’s the vulnerability of a character, the heat of the romance, or the stakes of the conflict, the blurb has to do it all in just a few sentences.

Here’s the first-person blurb for my upcoming novel Three’s a Charm.

In the high-stakes world of criminal defense, I have a secret weapon—a gift (or maybe a curse) that lets me vividly witness scenes of violence as they’re described to me. It’s an edge that’s helped me crack impossible cases and prove my clients’ innocence when no one else could.

I’m Divya Pandit, a defense attorney married to a man just as dedicated to justice as I am—a District Attorney who challenges me in all the best ways. Our marriage is a perfect mix of passion, humor, and law, keeping us both on our toes, professionally and personally. But when a new private investigator joins my team, our dynamic shifts.

Both of us find ourselves irresistibly drawn to this intriguing newcomer, sparking a forbidden attraction we never expected, and suddenly, our perfectly balanced life is anything but. As we navigate this new and forbidden attraction, we’re walking a tightrope between desire and duty, all while trying to keep our professional lives intact.

The stakes couldn’t be higher—not just for the three of us, but for my client whose future hangs in the balance. My painfully unique ability to uncover the truth has never been more crucial, but neither has the need to confront my own tangled emotions.

Three’s a Charm is a journey into the complexities of love, loyalty, and the kind of connections that defy easy labels. Inspired by the biblical story of Deborah, this sizzling contemporary romance explores the messy, beautiful chaos that comes with breaking the rules in love and law. If you’ve ever craved a romance that challenges the status quo and celebrates the power of unconventional love, Three’s a Charm is for you.

CONTENT WARNING: on-page violence (fatal stabbing of side character/s), closeted bisexual main character's bi-awakening and self-loathing

So, what do you think? Does the blurb for Three’s a Charm resonate with you? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
