Autism Acceptance
April is Autism Awareness Month—also called Autism Acceptance Month, which frankly feels more fitting. Awareness is great, but acceptance? Understanding? Celebrating neurodivergent brilliance in all its forms? That’s the real goal.
And because I believe books can change hearts and minds, today I’m sharing a few romance novels that do more than entertain—they offer honest, affirming, swoon-worthy portrayals of autistic characters falling in love, setting boundaries, and being deeply known and adored. (As they should be.)
Whether you're neurodivergent yourself, love someone who is, or just want to read more inclusive and authentic stories—these books deliver all the feels and all the nuance.
Representation isn’t about checking a box. It’s about the joy of seeing yourself—truly yourself—reflected on the page. It’s about breaking stereotypes, expanding empathy, and remembering that love stories belong to everyone.
Autistic people fall in love. Autistic people deserve respect. Autistic people are not here to be “fixed”—they’re here to be heard. And cherished. And written into every damn genre, including romance.
So if you're looking for your next listen or library run, these three books are a great place to start.
Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert, narrated by Ione Butler
Always Only You (Bergman Brothers, Book 2) by Chloe Liese, narrated by CJ Bloom & Nelson Hobbs
Somebody To Love (Jackson Family Distillery Book 2) by Mariah Ankenman
