Happily ever afters

There is something extra special about a happily ever after. The idea that the characters you’ve just spent an entire novel falling in love with will still be together when they’re old and gray? It gives one hope, amirite?

Here is a peek at what forever and ever looks like for Holland:

Kai’s vows say everything. “Holland, my heart—” he turns to smile warmly at Naomi to acknowledge he straight-up stole this endearment from her “—the moment I saw you with candlelight in your eyes and twinkle lights reflected on your hair, I fell in love with you. Whatever life throws at us, it is my job to keep you safe so you can continue to light any room you enter. We have feared the worst—when I thought you wanted me to find you a husband.” Our friends snicker at that. “When you thought I wanted to fire you from your job.” Our friends laugh out loud. “And we have fared well. I promise to love, honor, and protect you. I promise to put you first, even when our home is full of children.” Several of our friends gape at this. He’s going to start rumors. How fun is that? “These people who surround us now.” He looks around to make eye contact with our closest friends. “We are, all of us, a team. And with their help, this marriage will last forever. I promise.”
